Practice Summary.
Dr. Judy de León Jarecki-Black is a Partner and the Leader of the Biotech/Chemical practice in the Intellectual Property Practice of Klintworth & Rozenblat LLP. She has over twenty years of experience in intellectual property law, including private practice and nearly two decades in corporate leadership. As Global Head of Intellectual Property for Merial Limited (now Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health), Dr. Jarecki-Black led a worldwide IP department responsible for developing and implementing global patent strategies, overseeing prosecution, and managing litigation across the United States and internationally.
She has extensive experience protecting high-value biotechnology and pharmaceutical innovations, including maintaining Merial’s patent portfolio against infringement and validity challenges for FRONTLINE PLUS®, the only Animal Health product to exceed USD $1 billion in annual sales. Her practice spans portfolio development, prosecution, enforcement, and litigation, with particular expertise in vaccines, biologics, and therapeutics.
In addition to her legal practice, Dr. Jarecki-Black brings a strong scientific background with a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology & Pathobiology, combined with published research and vaccine development experience. She has authored twenty-four peer-reviewed publications and more than 80 abstracts and presentations. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, state courts in South Carolina and Georgia, and several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Dr. Jarecki-Black has received numerous professional honors, including the Feather in Her Cap Award in Animal Health (2022), Chief Patent Counsel of the Year (ILO Global Counsel Awards), and Intellectual Property Community Service Award (GSU College of Law, Atlanta Bar Association, and State Bar of Georgia).
